The number of Muslims in Canada has grown exponentially, while the size of the Jewish community has remained more or less stable. There are now 780,000 Muslims in the country, representing 2.5 percent of the total population, while the 373,000 Jews account for about 1 percent. On a national level there is no dialogue between Jews and Muslims comparable to the longstanding - and highly effective - Canadian Council of Christian and Jews, which is now called the Canadian Centre for Diversity. At a local level there are some contacts. Muslim and Jewish communities have parallel institutes that work together in trying to persuade the government of the Province of Ontario to end faith-based discrimination in school funding.
